An innovative solution for recycling fire-resistant fibres
Creation of an insulating, non-woven fabric combining recycled fire-resistant Kermel© fibres with Rockwool©.
IFTH, a structure of the Institut Carnot MICA, was approached by the Kermel company, a specialist in fire-resistant technical fibres for protective clothing (for fire-fighters, etc.), in order to develop a recycling solution for these fibres. Using the airlaying process (Formfiber's SPIKE technology), IFTH experts have created new non-woven materials incorporating different mixtures of Rockwool© and Kermel© fibres, previously deconstructed and unravelled.
The prototypes thus produced are in the form of insulating non-woven panels giving a second life to Kermel© fibres.
